After moving to South West France in 2003 Alasdair Johnstone who enjoys his golf joined Château des Forges Golf Club. Amongst his fellow British members he found several ex-servicemen and learnt of the widespread ex-service presence within the British community. Being the current President, and previous founding Chairman of St Cleer Branch in Cornwall he commenced recruiting members into The Royal British Legion through that Branch, originally planning to establish a sub-branch here.
But now with sufficient members encouragement by Cornwall County, St Cleer and London was received to instead form a full Branch. With volunteers to hand for a committee this was duly resolved at our first meeting, held at the Golf Club on 8th February 2007, with the name of Linazay Poitou-Charentes Branch : the name Linazay being chosen because of the earlier and continuing support received from that commune.
The first committee was, with Alasdair Johnstone continuing as President of the new Branch :
Chairman Gus Gurr, Vice Chairman Ken Checkett, Secretary Dave Abbott, Treasurer Tom Coleman, Membership Terry Dockerty, Welfare David Cropper Poppy Appeal & Standard Bearer Bill Cummins, Events Anne Cummins.
